Lara Anderton is the wife of John Anderton and the mother of Sean Anderton.

Pre-Minority Report[]

Six years prior to the events of the film, Lara met John, fell in love with him, and married him. Lamar Burgess later believed that the reason she and John married each other was that she was "as stubborn as he was." They had a son together named Sean and lived a happy life. That all changed one day when, while spending a day at public swimming pool in Baltimore, Sean went missing. After a police and FBI investigation proved unable to find Sean, John sat down to watch home movies of his son and shot a hole through the ceiling with his gun in a state of anguish. Lara falsely believed that John tried to kill himself, although she would later deeply regret ever saying that. The trauma was too much for both John and Lara to cope that they wound up divorcing each other. Lamar believed that she left John because he became obessed with PreCrime to the detriment of their marriage, but Lara would later say that it was because John reminded her too much of her son that she couldn't bear to be around him. From then on, Lara would spend her days at their family cottage by the lake and devote herself to her black-and-white photography pursuits.

Minority Report[]

After PreCrime predicted that Lara's ex-husband would murder a man named Leo Crow, Danny Witwer (who had by then gained jurisdiction over PreCrime's operations) went to the cottage to question Lara on John's whereabouts. When Witwer tried to press the matter of Sean's disappearance, Lara was so agitated by his questioning that she angrily demanded him to leave.

Later on, after Leo Crow died, John took the PreCog Agatha to meet Lara at their cottage. Seeking solace and rest after having been through so much, John and Lara spoke for the first time in six years and talked about John's ordeal in trying to prove his innocence. They came to realize that John was framed because he found out about a woman named Anne Lively who went missing after her murder had been supposedly prevented. Deducing correctly that Agatha was Anne Lively's daughter, John and Lara heard Agatha describe an alternate future of what might have been had Sean not gone missing. Although this was so painful for Lara to hear, she found some closure in hearing it as well. She was also present when PreCrime officers finally arrived to arrest John for the murders of both Leo Crow and Danny Witwer, of which John was innocent on both counts.

Later on the eve of PreCrime's nationalization, Lara spoke with Lamar Burgess about John's arrest and the details surrounding it. She asked about Anne Lively, which Lamar claimed to know nothing about, and begged for leniency for her ex-husband. After promising to look into the matter of Danny Witwer's death, Lamar inadvertently revealed knowing about Anne Lively's death, causing Lara to become suspicious and for Lamar to realize that he had to kill Lara to cover up this mistake. After Lamar left for the press conference, Lara obtained John's gun and used it along with John's old eye to coerce the Containment warden, Gideon, to release John from his imprisonment. She also worked with Jad from PreCrime's analysis room to expose Lamar as Anne Lively's murderer and ran up to embrace John just after Lamar killed himself.

A New Beginning[]

After the PreCrime program was dismantled and shut down, Lara remarried John and decided to try for another child. They would move back in together at John's apartment, at peace after having found closure in the disappearance of their son, Sean.
